How to get to the Musée de l'Orangerie by metro
From Concorde station
Three lines, one of the most convenient stations in Paris. Take the Tuileries Garden exit and not the Champs-Élysées side: the square is wide and crossing it twice wastes five minutes. Once in the garden, the museum is the stone building on your right, along the Seine. The Jeu de Paume is the one on the left, opposite, on the other side of the central alley. They look alike; it's the one by the water that you're looking for.
From the Tuileries station
Line 1 also stops at Tuileries, on Rue de Rivoli. It's a bit further, but you cross the garden in its entirety towards Concorde, and on a November morning it's the most beautiful approach. The glass south facade appears last. The walk through the garden takes about ten minutes.
By bus, by bike
Buses 42, 45, 72, 73, 84, and 94 have a Concorde stop. Four Vélib' stations are located near the square. I do not recommend the car: Concorde is not a place where you park.
From Orsay, on foot
Exit Orsay, turn right along the Seine, cross via the Pont de la Concorde or, more pleasant, via the Passerelle Léopold-Sédar-Senghor which opens directly into the Tuileries Garden. Count 15 minutes. How to organize both museums in one day is explained on Orsay or Orangerie.
From the airports
I remain general because the lines change: RER to Paris, then metro line 1 to Concorde. Count a good hour from the airports, more during peak hours. If you arrive with a cabin bag, know that the cloakroom accepts it up to 56 × 45 × 25 cm and nothing larger, details on backpack and cloakroom.
The entrance
The entrance is at the southwest corner of the garden, near Concorde. There are two lines: that of visitors with tickets and that of the ticket office. Security check is mandatory for everyone. The meeting point for guided tours varies according to the language, and the private visit meets at 19 Place de la Concorde, near the first tree of the alley on the left before the entrance. Exit the Concorde metro at 8:50 AM, walk to the "visitors with ticket" line, enter at 9:00 AM. You'll have the oval rooms to yourself for twenty minutes. This is the only tip on this site that's really worth it.
